I liked the characters, missions, weapons and overall gameplay, it's the save game /checkpoint system that killed it for me. The bottom line is that Perfect Dark is a great multiplayer game. The voice acting was good and the sounds in general were solid. It had a porno disco funk to it which I really enjoyed. Lighting was pretty over the top, and the texturing ranged from stuff you'd expect to see on the original Xbox to super cool stuff not even seen the PC. I don't think it was a choice in art style, they just looked poor. The character's faces for example aren't detailed at all. PDZ has its share of jaw dropping moments, but an equal amount of not-so-fresh feeling graphics. I wouldn't classify it as "next-gen" by any means, but it looks nice. There should've been some sort of middle ground. Perhaps the game saves were so big that they couldn't fit many on a memory card, hence the suckage, but for people with a hard-drive I doubt it would really matter. Not that I don't enjoy a challenge, but replaying the same map a couple dozen times is not my idea of fun. A cinch to do on easiest setting, but once you go up even one level it becomes frustrating. You literally have to get to the middle of a level before it saves. One of which is a non-draconian save game system. Perhaps this was a throwback for when consoles ran at 20 frames per second, but on the 360 it felt off.Īfter playing games like Halo/2 or Call of Duty 2, you get accustomed to basic inalienable gaming rights. Even with the sensitivity cranked all the way up in the options menu, it takes few seconds to move the targeting doodad around the screen. The controls in PDZ aren't bad, they're just a little slow. You don't really notice this in the single player game, but it makes aiming a lot easier in multiplayer.Īs a PC player, I'm accustomed to using a keyboard and mouse in a first person shooter. That's not to say you can't "jump" up on stuff, if you keep moving towards say a ledge you'll move up and over, but there's just no active jumping to be had. There's no jumping in the game, which annoys some to no end, instead players roll, dodge and use cover. There's not really any single element that makes the multiplayer so much fun, but a combination of good maps, weapons and balance that makes it so addictive. Sporting co-op, deathmatch, dark-match and even bots, Perfect Dark Zero offers both compelling skirmish style multiplayer with AI enemies, or online against other human beans on Live!.
